Our business is based around using the best producers we can find locally. We have an amazing larder on our doorstep and it made sense to us to use it and shout about it. This year we put our money where our mouth is and joined Slow Food who’s ethos on celebrating local sustainable ingredients reflects our values. Using local suppliers helps keep food miles low and ensures we maintain a small food chain. We know most of our suppliers personally and have great relationships with them, something that we like to shout about because it matters. It really does. And our customers love to know that we know where our ingredients come from. Without further ado, here are the superstar Scottish producers who help us make our scotch eggs the best:
Corrie Mains, Mauchline
Out of this world award winning free range eggs- Lovely Anne and Jim Smillie along with their family are a phenomenon in the egg world- their egg yolks can be recognised at 20 paces.
Ramsay’s of Carluke
Andrew and Jacqueline Ramsay are at the helm of their family business which has specialised in outdoor bred pork for 160 years. Yes, 160 years! They are true masters of all things pork and do a mean haggis. Not only are they professional to the core, they are nice nice people who we love working with.
Charles MacLeod, Stornoway
Our customers wouldn’t forgive us if we used anything but Charles MacLeod’s Stornoway black pudding. So, we use Charles MacLeod Stornoway black pudding, by the truck load. It is after all our most popular scotch egg.
Grants of Prestwick
We trust the Grant brothers to provide us with veg, herbs and dairy, sourced from local farms like GC Growers of Girvan when possible and they deliver.
Sheena Horner, a chilli force to be reckoned with. She makes the best chilli preserves in the known universe from chillis grown right here in Ayrshire. What a legend.
Braehead Food, Kilmarnock
For everything else we use industry leader Braehead Foods, who we are lucky enough to have on our doorstep. Craig Stevenson and his team have created an empire of food service goods and supply us with all the other sundries we need to make magic in our kitchen.
